Kathryn Olson joined Beacon Global Strategies LLC in September 2018.
Prior to joining Beacon, she was a Research Assistant at the Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies, where she supported Dr. Mara Karlin. She also served as a Political/Economic Section intern for the U.S. Embassy in Myanmar, covering financial sector developments, economic reform, trade and the extractives industry.
From 2014 to 2016, Ms. Olson served as a Military Legislative Correspondent in the Office of Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), where she worked on defense, foreign affairs, trade and intelligence issues. Prior to her work for Senator Schatz, she was a Joseph S. Nye Jr. National Security Intern at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). Ms. Olson has also completed internships at The New Republic and Al-Monitor.
Ms. Olson holds a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University, where she was a Tisch Pentagon Summer Fellow at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Cost Assessment & Program Evaluation. She received her M.A. in Strategic Studies and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where she was a Helmut Sonnenfeldt fellow and Managing Editor of the SAIS Review of International Affairs.
