Prior to joining BGS, Dr. Divyansh Kaushik distinguished himself as an influential expert in emerging technologies and national security, focusing on artificial intelligence and its implications for US-China tech competition. From 2023, Dr. Kaushik served as the Associate Director for Emerging Technologies and National Security at the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), where he was a Fellow earlier (2022-2023), and became a pivotal resource for Congress and the administration on emerging tech policy. In this role, he significantly contributed to the development and advocacy of key legislative measures and engaged deeply in issues surrounding AI R&D, tech standards development, STEM immigration and research security across different administrations.
Before his tenure at FAS, Dr. Kaushik gained recognition for his doctoral work at Carnegie Mellon University, where he designed machine learning models for robust performance in unseen environments. This research has not only earned him thousands of scholarly citations but also led to prestigious accolades such as Best Paper awards and scholarships from Amazon, Siebel Foundation, and the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation.
As a testament to his multidisciplinary impact, Dr. Kaushik’s role extended beyond academia and policy to include significant engagements with the media, where he provided expert commentary on a wide range of topics from AI and research security to high-skilled immigration and R&D policy. His influential voice has been a driving force in shaping public and governmental understanding of the intersections between technology, security, and policy. As a recognized voice in discussions on AI, research security, and technological competition, Kaushik continues to contribute to leading publications, offering insights that bridge the gap between technology and policy. His thought leadership has extended to active participation in critical forums, including his role as a non-resident Senior Fellow at the American Policy Ventures and FAS, as well as a member of the Advisory Council for the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue. Dr. Kaushik holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Language and Information Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on natural language processing and machine learning.
