Ian Byrne

Mr. Byrne is an accomplished analyst specializing in Middle East policy, international economics, and global energy issues. Prior to joining BGS, he worked as an analyst for the Scowcroft Group, and also as an analyst for BGS in 2019. He brings over a decade of experience working in international affairs across the private, non-profit, and think tank sectors. From 2015-2018, he worked for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a leading think tank focused on the Middle East. From 2012-2015, he worked for the World Affairs Councils of America, an organization dedicated to educating Americans on national security issues. In these roles, he built and managed relationships with senior U.S. government officials, the Washington press corps, foreign embassies, non-governmental organizations, and foreign policy think tanks.

Recognized for his expertise, Mr. Byrne was selected as a Brookings Institution Middle East Policy Future Leader in 2023. He also served as a Security and Strategy Seminar Fellow with the Alexander Hamilton Society, focusing on the U.S.-China strategic competition. He is currently a member of the Meridian International Center’s Energy & the Environment Corporate Council Working Group. He has volunteered on numerous congressional campaigns as a communications and political advisor.

Mr. Byrne holds an M.A. in International Economics and Strategic Studies and a minor in International Political Economy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in English and minor in Political Science.
