Kaly McKenna brings over two decades of experience at the intersection of national security, emerging technologies, and strategic government investments. As the former head of the U.S. Air Force’s strategic investment team in the Engine Room, Kaly oversaw a $1.1 trillion portfolio over the POM cycle, integrating advanced technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, and hypersonics into national defense strategies. A trusted advisor to senior leaders across the public and private sectors, Kaly played a pivotal role in shaping innovation strategies and advancing defense modernization efforts for the joint warfighter.
As the first military fellow to the Defense Innovation Board, Kaly was instrumental in modernizing the Department of Defense’s approach to AI, software acquisition, and cultural transformation. Her fellowship with Andreessen Horowitz further strengthened partnerships between Silicon Valley and the defense ecosystem, fostering technology solutions that continue to shape the future of national security. Kaly served as the Chief Innovation Officer for Creech AFB and, as a decorated combat pilot, flew C-130s and MQ-9 aircraft in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
Kaly graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and holds an MBA from American Military University, as well as a Master’s in Strategic Communications from George Washington University.
